Nearing completion on Harrington Street is what The New York Times has referred to as the world’s ‘first hemp skyscraper’ it’s 12 storeys high and built primarily from blocks of hempcrete, which is made of hemp shiv (the chopped, woody core of cannabis plants) and lime mix.
While the past is always on display here – in the architecture and at the District Six Museum – the East City is also looking to the future.
